The Department of Physics celebrated the National Sports Day on 29th August 2024 in the presence of the Principal and Sports Committee. The event was held to honor the birth anniversary of Major Dhyan Chand, the legendary hockey player, and to emphasize the importance of sports and physical activities in students’ lives. On this occasion, Dr. M. Mohanbabu, HOD of Physics delivered the welcome address and Dr. V. Subathra, Principal gave a special address. Various sports competitions including Chess, Carrom, Tennikoit, Badminton, Kabaddi, Volleyball and Throw ball were organized for the students by sports coordinators Dr. E. Chinnasamy, Assistant Professor of Physics and Mrs. S. Lakshmi, Lab Assistant fostering a spirit of healthy competition and teamwork.

National Space Day 2024: Inspiring Curiosity and Passion for Space Science at the Department of Physics

The National Space Day celebration was held on 23rd August 2024 at the Physics Laboratory, Department of Physics with CA, coordinated by Mr. J. Arunkarthikeyan, Asst. Prof. of Physics. Dr. M. Mohanbabu, HOD of Physics delivered the welcome address, highlighting the significance of National Space Day in fostering interest in space exploration. Various competitions such as Rangoli, Drawing, Paper presentation, Speech and Scientific models were organized to engage the students. Dr. V. Subathra provided an overview of the day’s events and their relevance to Physics. The event was memorable and inspiring that successfully ignited curiosity and passion for space science among the participants. The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. E. Chinnasamy, Asst. Prof. of Physics.

The 12th National Sports Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and focus on the theme “Modern Development of Physical Education and Sports for Arts and Science College Students, on 30.08.2024.” This event aims to highlight the evolving role of physical education in colleges, particularly those focused on arts and sciences, and explore how modern approaches can enhance student engagement and performance in sports. Principal Dr. V. Subathra welcomed the gathering and emphasized the significance of sports in fostering discipline, teamwork and leadership skills. She highlighted the college’s efforts in promoting sports and physical education, encouraging students to actively participate. Vice Principal Dr. D. Muruganandam spoke about the modern developments in Physical education and sports. He encouraged students to adopt a healthy lifestyle, balancing academics and physical activities. Dr. P. Sivaraman, the chief guest, delivered a keynote address on the importance of sports in higher education. He shared his experiences and insights, emphasizing the role of physical education in shaping individuals’ personalities and careers. The event was organized by Mr. M. Murali, Physical Education Director; Mrs. C. Murugeswari, Physical Education Director; Dr. M. Mohan Babu, Head of the Department of Physics; and Dr. K. Inauguration of Maths Expo 2024: Showcasing Student Innovation and Creativity

The Maths Expo, organized by the Mathematics with Computer Applications department, was inaugurated by Vice Principal Dr. D. Muruganandam on September 2, 2024. Thirty-five students actively participated, showcasing their projects and mathematical models. The event attracted approximately 400 visitors, including faculty and students. The visitors were impressed by the creativity and problem-solving skills demonstrated by the students of our department.

Awareness program on Drug Abuse and POCSO through lecture and Rally

On August 29, 2024, the two NSS Units along with the YRC, RRC, and Drive against Drugs Committee, organized a awareness program on Drug Abuse and POCSO through lecture and Rally. The event was led by the chief guest, Mrs. G. Amudha, Sub-Inspector of Police from Chengalpattu District, who delivered an impactful speech on the dangers of drug abuse and the features of the POCSO Act in protecting children. Following her address, students and staff participated in a rally through key areas of the community, carrying banners to raise awareness. The college Principal and Vice Principal  took part in the event. The program successfully engaged participants and the local community, spreading crucial messages about drug prevention and child protection.

The session has been kick started in the morning in our college auditorium around 10.30am. Herbal Garden plantation

On August 23, 2024, the NSS Units of our college organized a Herbal Tree Plantation program on our college campus. The event was inaugurated by Dr. G. Hariharasudhan, Block Medical Officer, Madurantakam and Dr. Priya nandhini  Govt. Hospital Madurantakam, who served as the chief guest. The college Principal and Vice Principal also participated in the event, which aimed to promote environmental sustainability and awareness among students. Several herbal saplings were planted, contributing to the greanary of the campus and encouraging the practice of traditional medicinal plant cultivation.

On August 23, 2024, the NSS Units I and II,  YRC and RRC of our college, jointly organized a Blood Donation Camp in collaboration with Madurantakam Government Hospital. The event witnessed a  response, with 43 units of blood donated by students and staff. The camp was conducted under the guidance of medical professionals, ensuring the safety and well-being of all doners. . The parents meet of all the departments was held on 17.08.2024. Initially, there was a meeting of all the parents with the HOD and faculty members of the department. During this meet, there was a general discussion about the college’s developments and the role of parents in shaping the future of the college as well as their wards. Parents were deliberated about the NAAC initiatives of the college and parents’ contribution towards obtaining NAAC grades. After this initial exercise, each parent met with the HOD and the class about their ward’s academic performance in Continuous Assessment Test I (CAT I) and Last semester University examination results, the attendance, general behavior in the class were brought to the notice of the parents. The good academic performance as well as behaviors were appreciated and when there is a lack, parents were directed to pay more attention to their wards at home. In general, students were motivated and encouraged in the presence of parents. This meet helped in bridging the gap between the parents and teachers in improving the quality of education of students.
