Women Empowerment Cell (WEC)
“Empowerment of students through education” is the mission of Women empowerment cell (WEC) of the college. A necessary condition for true empowerment is development of the individual. A wholesome development can happen only through discovering and recognizing one’s talent and inner aspirations. But the path of self-discovery and development is strongly influenced by the socio-economic milieu. Unfortunately for a vast majority of youth in India, overcoming the social attitudes, stigmas and prejudices coupled with poverty becomes a great challenge for self-development. Girls and young women face additional challenges and hindrances to realize their true potential and fulfil their aspirations because of overt and covert prejudices and attitudes in the family, work place and society. The college has started to bring these issues to the fore and empower women including students, staff and faculty of college in harnessing their inner potential.
- At Sri Malolan College, there are three committees constituted to empower women against Sexual harassment, to enrich the entrepreneurship skills and to promote their health and hygiene.
- The main objectives of these clubs are building self-esteem, and life skill lessons.
- The cell also creates a supportive space for girls and women to share their experiences and exploitation, Sexual abuse in their personal, professional and college lives.
- Women are empowered with entrepreneurship skills through developing their leadership and vocational skills to become entrepreneurs.
- Emphasis on self-care, physical, mental and reproductive well-being are also focused.
- In order to protect girl students against any kind of abuses and gender inequality behaviors, a separate box is kept in the campus which enable girl students to vent their grievances in the form of letters and dropping at the box. Anonymity and confidentiality are maintained .
